
Tacoma Youth Chorus enthusiastically welcomes Dr. Nicholas Lockey as the organization’s Managing Director, effective July 1. Dr. Lockey grew up in Tacoma and played viola in the Tacoma Youth Symphony. He has a deep understanding of the South Sound Arts community and believes fully in the Tacoma Youth Chorus mission of “transforming the lives of youth through choral artistry and the ensemble experience.” He is eager to work with the organization’s Founder and Artistic Director, Judith Herrington.
Dr. Lockey is a graduate of Pacific Lutheran University (B.M., Piano Performance), the University of Victoria (M.A., Musicology), and Princeton University (Ph.D., Musicology, M.A., Musicology). He has served on the music faculty of The Benjamin School, Palm Beach Florida; as Assistant Professor of Musicology, Sam Houston State University, Texas; Guest Lecturer and Director of Musica Alta (Early Music Ensemble), Princeton; University Congregation Minister of Music at Pacific Lutheran University.
Dr. Lockey brings performance experience as a violist, pianist, and harpsichordist, and educational and management experience as a band and choral director. The Tacoma Youth Chorus staff, singers, families, and Board of Directors will benefit greatly from his skills, experience, and commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
